That feeling of gratitude, upon receiving an unexpected gift. A few weeks ago, a Facebook friend – whom I’ve never met – decided to ask me my mailing address in order to send me something. Doug is a big record collector (78s) and knows that here, Jacques Chuilon and I are big collectors of signed photos of opera singers, especially Mattia Battistini, but also a Pantheon of notable sopranos, altos, tenors and basses. When the very large tube package arrived and it’s contents was unrolled, stupefaction. But the atypical and oversized image had never been framed and required immediate attention! Today it’s back from the framer, with a custom acid-free mat, and custom frame finished in piano-black lacquer; fitted with non-reflective glass, to reveal the beauty of the photography, and resistant to UV, to pass on to future generations devoted to preserving the art of Joan Sutherland…
