This is rare.
The last few moments of Joseph Haydn’s “Farewell Symphony” no. 45 (1772), led by the marvelous conductor Vladimir Spivakov, where each member of the orchestra slowly and solemnly steps away from the stage until only one instrument remains. I won’t say which one.
I’ve also heard him conducting George Gershwin with robust brashness, and Mozart (piano Concerto no. 17 with Denis Matseuv) to utter perfection.

We were taught in music history class that Haydn wrote this as Esterhaz was not paying the musicians. This was Haydn’s hint.
