Artiste inoubliable, que j’ai entendu au Met en Leporello, dans un ‘Don Giovanni’ entouré des plus grands, notamment La Stupenda. Quelle soirée ! Souvenirs aussi d’un concert à Paris où il nous ont régalé avec ses airs de concerts de Mozart, avec notamment des bis, qui sortaient de sa besace avec générosité et musicalité : tout son répertoire du même compositeur.
Il était le Roi dans ‘L’amour des trois oranges’ de Prokofiev (version française) à San Francisco, production où j’ai chanté à ses côtés le mage Tchelio.
Un bouffon adorable à table, dans les répétitions ainsi que dans les représentations. Je garderai le souvenir de son excellence sovereign (royale !), de sa chaleur humaine, notamment pendant les saluts, quand il me tenait chaque soir la main, partageant le succès, comme un grand homme de cœur.
